|History of name:
Merab was the eldest daughter of King Saul and his wife Ahinoam. She was promised to the man who killed Goliath the Philistine.
When David came to claim her he found Saul had given her to Adriel and he was given her sister Michal instead. Later when David became king, he handed over Merabís
five sons to the Gibeonites to be killed in expiation of Saulís crimes against them,
and in the belief that the current famine would cease. [1 Sam. 14:49; 18:17Ė19]
